CALDERA, PUNTARENAS – October 8th, 2012 – Costa Rica will build a new loading dock for cargo ships at the Caldera Port, in the Pacific. The expansion will cost approximately $34 million, and will increase the port’s operating capacity by 135%.
The construction will begin in about 2 months, and take approximately two years to complete. This will be the port’s fourth loading dock.
The construction phase is expected to generate about 200 jobs, and once construction is finished, the facility is expected to employ 150 people for its operation.
The dock is expected to have a length of around 180 meters and 6,000 square meters of construction.
In the Caribbean, Costa Rica is also expanding its footprint as a regional shipping hub, with the construction of a new port, the Moin Container Terminal, by Holland company APM Terminals, which, according to plans, will be the largest in Central America.

It seems like the Caribbean/Mexico coast are trying to get really involved into the shipping industry. Brazil, Costa Rica and other ports are doing renovations. 2-3 years that area is going to good jobs growth and if everything keeps looking up it will boast there economy. It will be nice to see what happens?
